Ryszard Stryjec was born in Lipniszki, Poland on 30th April 1932

After the Second World War, Stryjc's family moved to Zielona Gora and Stryjec attended the State Institute of Fine Arts (PWSSP / Panstwowa Wyzsza Szkole Sztuk Plastycznych) in Sopot (1952-1958). While Stryjec was studying there the school relocated (in 1954) to Gdansk and was re-named the Academy of Fine Arts.

After graduating Stryjec stayed in Gdansk and had a successful career working, and exhibiting, as an artist, designer and ceramicist.

He worked (from 1955) with Hanna Zulawska and her 'Kadyny' ceramics studio - exhibiting with them at the Industrial Design Fair, Warsaw up until 1962. He was then design editor of the monthly 'Litery' magazine (1962-1974) and was head of the design studio at the weekly 'Czas' magazine (1975-1978)

Ryszard Stryjec died in Gdansk on 5th June 1997, aged 65.

Examples of Ryszard Stryjec's works are held in the collections of the Polish Museum of America, Chicago; The Ost-Akademie, Lüneburg, Germany; the Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersberg; the National Library, Warsaw and the National Museums in Warsaw and Gdansk.

A Retospective exhibition was held at the State Gallery of Art (Panstwowa Galeria Sztuki), Sopot, Poland in 2022.
