Bertil Gatu 1913-1984

Bertil Gatu was born in Rättvik parish, Kopparberg county on 12th July 1913. He was a Swedish painter.

Gatu attended Edward Berggren's painting school (Berggrens Målarskola), Stockholm (1937-1938), the drawing school at Académie Julien, Paris (1938) and Konstakademien (Academy of Fine Arts) design school in Stockholm where he studied under the Swedish painter Harald Sallberg (1895-1963) and Emil Johanson-Thor (1889-1958).

Gatu first exhibited in Örebro (1941). Other exhibitions include Stockholm (1943, 1944 and 1949), Gothenburg (1951) and Uppsala, Hälsingborg and Eskilstuna. Gatu travelled to England (1949) and Spain (1952).

In 1936, Gatu published (Albert Bonniers Förlag) a collection of poems entitled 'Under MånenÂ’ (Under the Moon).

Examples of Gatu's work are held in the collections of Moderna Muséet (Modern Museum), Stockholm; Norrköping Art Museum, Dalarnas Museum and the Örebro County Museum.

Bertil Gatu died in Rättvik on 13th December 1984, aged 71.
