Arthur Easton has a long exhibiting CV, he has been showing since 1970. Although exhibiting solely in the UK, his work is in collections all over the world, and he continues to intrigue and impress viewers. When he exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1990, (the year of this painting) two critics picked out his work for attention 'there was a fight over who got the right to purchase Arthur Easton's trompe l'oeil Still Life with a Wooden Box' wrote Geraldine Norman of The Independent Newspaper and the same painting was, for Richard Dorment, writing for the Daily Telegraph, 'one of the pictures that gives me pleasure'
