Advance Across Catania Plain
With the fall of Catania and Paterno on 5.8.43. the 8th Army cracked open the whole Axis defence line south of Mt. Etna - focus of fierce fighting. Four days after the opening of their offensive saw them in full advance across the dusty plain of Catania. The picture shows: In one of the wrecked hangers of Gerhini airfield in the plain of Catania which was hit by the R.A.F during heavy bombing raids.
