Bertrand Dorny was born in Paris on 2nd July 1931. He was a French painter, designer and pioneering printmaker.

In 1948, Dorny studied briefly under the Fauve artist Othon Friesz (1879-1949). In 1952 he studied under the French Cubist painter André Lhote (1885-1962) but it wasn't until 1954 that he discovered printmaking at the Paris atelier of Johnny Friedlaender (1912-1992)

Dorny exhibited extensively throughout Europe and America. He taught at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris (1975-1979) and was a member of the Society of French Engravers. A major respective of his work was held at the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris (2003) and The New York Public Library, New York (2006).

Examples of Dorny’s works are held in the collections of Musee d'art Moderne, Paris; Chicago Art Institute; Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Yale University Art Gallery; Boston Museum of Fine Arts and Centre National d'Art Contemporain, Paris.

Bertrand Dorny died in Paris on 19th June 2015, aged 83.
