Tord Ivan Jordell was born on 19th July 1901 in Katrineholm, Sweden. He studied briefly at the Skånska Målarskolan, Malmö (1930-31), but was otherwise self-taught.

His first solo exhibition was at the Malmö Museum in 1932. In 1937 he became a member of the Konstföreningen Aura (Aura Art Association)

Jordell painted landscapes, cityscapes and portraits. In the early 1940s Jordell started to work with tempera as well as traditional oil paints.

In 1940 he exhibited again at the Malmö Museum followed by an exhibition at the Gothenburg Art Gallery (Göteborgs Konsthall) in 1945 - and again in 1946 with the sculptor Nanna Ullman (1888-1964). In 1950, he exhibited at the Linköping Museum with the artists Martin Emond (1895-1965) and Felix Hatz (1904-1999).

Examples of Jordell's work are held at the Nationalmuseum (National Museum) and the Moderna Museet (Museum of Modern Art) in Stockholm, the Malmö Museum, the Gothenburg Art Museum and Statens Museum for Kunst (National Gallery of Denmark) in Copenhagen as well as in museums in Norrköping and Ystad.

Jordell died in Malmö in 1965, aged 64.
