Karl Bertil Gadö was born in Malmö on 20th July 1916. He was a Swedish painter and graphic artist.

Gadö attended the Skåne Painting School (Skånska Målarskolan), Malmö (1933-35)

Gadö first exhibited in 1939 in a group exhibition in Malmö. From 1941 to 1951 Gadö regularly participated in the Skåne Art Association's Autumn Exhibitions. Other notable group exhibitions include Malmö Rådhus (Town Hall) (1947); 'God Konst i Alla Hem' (Good Art in the Hime), HSB-Huset, Fleminggatan, Stockholm (1948) and 'Skånekonstnärer' (Skåne Artists) held at Liljevalchs Konsthall, Stockholm (1951). Gadö was a member of Skånsk Avantgardekonst (Skånes Avant-Garde Art) and participated in their exhibitions at Malmö Museum (1949) and in Hälsingborg and Stockholm (1951). Solo exhibitions include SDS-Centralen, Malmö (1943); Stockholm and Berlin.

From 1948 to 1952, Gadö was also part of Imaginisterna - A group of Swedish painters (including Max Walter Svanberg, Carl-Otto Hultén, Anders Österlin and Gösta Kriland) who, in looking for alternative approach to surrealism, turned away from the detailed style of Salvador Dalí in favour of artist such as Max Ernst, Paul Klee and abstract expressionism.

In 1951 Gadö exhibited at the first São Paulo Biennale at the Museo de Arte Moderna, Brazil and (in 1952) was elected to Walter Grab's international surrealist group 'Phoenix' alongside the German artists Edgar Ende, Rudolf Schlichter and the American Kurt Seligmann.

Examples of Gadö's work are held in the collections of at Moderna Museet and Nationalmuseum, Stockholm and Malmö Museum.

Bertil Gadö died in 2014, aged 88.
