Carl Gustaf Gösta Backlund was born in 1930. He is a Swedish artist, designer and art critic.

A self-taught artist, Backlund enrolled himself in a correspondence drawing class at the age of 17. He has taken study trips to the Netherlands, France, Belgium and Greece.

Bucklund first exhibited at the City Hotel (Stadshotellet), Falun in 1947. Other exhibitions include Avesta and Borlänge (1948) Dalarnas ArtistÂ’s Association Autumn Salon (1948); 'De Unga', Stockholm (1952) and Öland (annually 1953 to 2002). Backlund regularly exhibits at Galleri Lucidor, Stockholm and was part of an exhibition of Swedish works exhibited in Singapore in 2004. He has exhibited alongside many other artists and musicians including the sculptor Lenny Clarhäll and the painter Michael Söderlundh and the composer Carin Malmlöf-Forssling.

Backlund worked in Paris in the early 1950s. In the mid 1950's he visited Öland, an island and province just off the southeast coast of Sweden, for the first time. Backlund visited Öland every year since. In 1962, Backlund built a lake side summer studio just outside Falun.

Examples of Backlund's works are held in the collections of National Museum, Moderna Muséet in Stockholm and the museums in Dalarna, Hälsingland, Lund, Öland and Örebro. Public works include Ludvika, Sandviken and Umeå.
