Gerhard (Gerry) Henrik Fredrik Eckhardt was born in Riga, Latvia on 24th August 1902. He was a Swedish painter and print maker.

Eckhardt attended Gottfried Larsson's painting school, Stockholm (1931-1932) where he studied under Edward Berggren (1876-1961) before travelling the Paris to study under the French sculptor, painter and writer André Lhote (1885-1962). Eckhardt also studied under the Swedish designer and typographer Akke Kumlien (1884-1949). Eckhardt took study trips to the Balkans (1927), Germany (1933), Denmark (1935), Italy and France (1934, 1937 and 1948).

Eckhardt first exhibited at Fahlcrantz, Stockholm (1937). Other exhibitions include Galerie Moderne, Stockholm (1939) and Thurestams, Stockholm (1945). Group exhibitions include the 'De Ungas' salon, Stockholm (1949), Gothenburg (1950) and Örebro (1952) and annually with Sveriges Allmänna Konstförening (Swedish Public Art Association). Public works include Livre d'Art, Brussels and enamel paintings for Konst på Östbergahöjden (1967-1969) - Östbergahöjden is a development of 1,200 residential apartments in southwest Stockholm

Eckhardt was a member of the Grödingegruppen art group (established 1958) alongside fellow artists fellow artists Vide Jansson, Rune Pettersson, Nalle Werner and Sixten Haage.

Examples of Eckhardt's work are held in the collections of the National Museum and Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Eskilstuna and Västerås Art Museums; Turku Art Museum, Finland and the Pinakoteket, Munich.

Gerhard Eckhardt died in 1984, aged 82.
