Berndt Friberg (1899-1981) was a Swedish Potter
Berndt Friberg was born in Höganäs, Sweden. He learned to create pottery while working as a thrower at Höganäs pottery (1915-1918) after which he worked for various pottery studios in Denmark and Sweden until, in 1934, he was employed as a thrower to Wilhelm Kåge at Gustavsberg porcelain factory, Gustavsberg, Sweden.
Friberg first exhibited (as an independent potter and to much critical acclaim) in 1941 at Gustavsbergs store on Birger Jarlsgatan in Stockholm, along with Calle Blomqvist (1902-1983) and Stig Lindberg (1916-1982).
By 1944, Friberg had his own studio at Gustavsbergs, were he worked until his death in 1981.
Friberg is known for their sensitive, elegant forms he designed and beautiful colours of the many glazes he (developed and) used. He was unique in that he was able to design, craft and glaze everything he produced.
Friberg received gold medals at the Milan Triennale in 1948, 1951 and 1954. In 1949 his works were exhibited at National museum, Sweden.
