Additional Information
Holger Bäckström and Bo Ljungberg (aka Beck & Jung) were childhood friends both born in Lund, Sweden in 1939.
Bäckström studied at the Konstfack (University College of Arts, Crafts and Design) in Stockholm between 1960-1964. Ljungberg studied structural engineering in Malmö and Maths at Lund University. In 1965 they both returned to Lund and began their life long artistic collaboration as 'Beck & Jung'.
In 1966, from their studio in Lilla Södergatan, Beck & Jung began experimenting with compositions prepared on early computers. In 1967 they had their first solo exhibition at the Lunds Konsthal.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s Beck & Jung worked closely with Lund University's Data Centre. Their experiments with computer-generated images attracted world wide attention, especially in the US where they exhibited extensively.
Their friend, Bo Nilsson - who is currently the Artistic Director at Artipelag - described Holger Bäckström (in his book With Cheerful Greetings) as "the sensible artist with a creative streak and an irrational temper" while Bo Ljungberg was "the constructive thinking engineer who had the a sense of order of an accountant."
