    Torsten Renqvist was a Swedish painter, sculptor, printmaker, and writer.

    Born in Ludvika, Sweden in 1924. Renqvist studied at Otte Sköld art school in Stockholm, the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen (1948-50) at the Art Academy in Stockholm. He was director of the Valand Art School in Gothenburg (1956-1958). In 1964 he represented Sweden at the Venice Biennale and he had a major retrospective at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, in 1974. Renqvist Died on 13th May 2007 in Kummelnäs, Sweden

    Renqvist's paintings and graphics - and later, his sculpture, have always been at the centre of contemporary Swedish art. "Torsten Renqvist belonged to the last century's truly great Swedish artists" (Ulf Linde (1929-2013), the Swedish art critic and museum director).
