International News Photos / Slug (Eniwetok Tests) Photos of Top-Secret Atomic Tests ----- Eniwetok on May 17, 1948, The US Atomic Energy Commission handed President Truman a report on the first series of tests of three atomic weapons at the proving ground at Eniwetok Atoll in the Pacific in the Spring of 1948. The exact nature of the tests, including weapons involved, are top government secrets but the commission announced that each weapon was of improved design, were successful in all respects and that the results indicated substantial progress. These photographs, the first to be issued of the tests, do not show the atomic weapons involved, but do reveal that the destructive blasts caused by the mighty atom-bomb blast at Bikini.'
