Harold 'Hal' Missingham was an Australian artist, Director of the Art Galllery of New South Wales from 1945 until 1971, and president of the Australian Watercolour Institute (1952-1955). He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in January 1978 for service to arts.

Hal Missingham and Edward Bishop first met while both studying at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London in 1926. According to Hal's son, Peter, the two remained firm friends throughout their lives.
