The plot - About a photographer, played by David Hemmings, who believes he may have witnessed a murder and unwittingly taken photographs of the killing - was inspired by Julio Cortázar's short story, "Las babas del diablo" or "The Devil's Drool" (1959), and the life of 60's London fashion photographer David Bailey. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Director (Antonioni) and Best Screenplay (Antonioni) and is regarded as one of the quintessential films of the 1960's.
