Barbro Bråne 1925-1989

Barbro Bråne was born in Jönköping, southern Sweden on 22 December 1925.

She attended Konstfack (the university college of arts, crafts and design) in Stockholm in 1945 and studied at the Otte Sköld School of Painting between 1946 and 1948 - The school was founded in 1929 by Åke Pernby (1902-1981) and Joseph Otte (1894-1957). In 1949 it became the Pernbys målarskola (Pernbys painting school).

In 1951 Bråne studied at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris.

Bråne first exhibited in a group exhibition at the Jönköping Museum in 1949 - and in 1950 she returned with her first solo exhibition. She continued to exhibit throughout the 70s and 80s and was honoured with a retospective exhibition in Nordingrå soon after her death in 1989.

Her works are held in the collections of the Jönköping County Museum, the Småland Museum in Växjö, Boras Art Museum, Parliament House, and the Småland art archives in Värnamo.
