Gote Rex 1902-1960

Born in Halmstad (Sweden) in 1902, Rex was the son of a Danish Taxidermist who had arrived in Halmstad from Denmark in 1885.

Rex studied painting in Gothenburg. His first exhibition was a joint exhibition with the artist Einar Krüger held at the Hotel Mårtensson in Halmstad in 1944. They exhibited together again (in Halmstad) in 1948 and went to study in Paris during the Spring on 1948. Rex’s first solo exhibition was in 1949.

In the early 1950s Rex met the artist Carl Johansson (1863-1944) and he began working in a more graphic style. Rex’s retrospective exhibition was held at the City Library in Halmstad in 1957.
