Ivar Ekelund 1908-2002

Ivar Ekelund was born in Stockholm in 1908. He was a Swedish artist and designer.

In the 1940s Ekelund attended the (Signe Barths Målarskola) painting school established in 1940 by the Swedish painter and illustrator Signe Barth (1895-1982) and Isaac Grünewald's art school (founded in 1941) were he sudied under Grünewald before Grünewald's sudden death in 1946 - Isaac Grünewald (1889-1946) was a Swedish-Jewish expressionist painter widely acknowledged as being responsible for introducing Modernism to Sweden. Ekelund also attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris.

Ekelund first exhibited at Galleri Moderne, Stockholm in 1948. He continued exhibiting (in Sweden, Warsaw and Berlin) until the mid-1960s.

Examples of Ekelund¬ís works are held in the collections of Moderna Muséet (Museum of Modern Art), Stockholm and Ystad Museum.

Ivar Ekelund died in Nacka in 2002, aged 94.
