Ib S. Østergaard 1937-2022

Ib Sørensen Østergaard was born in Skelhøje on 9th May 1937. He was a Danish Painter and designer.

Østergaard attended the Det Jyske Kunstakademi (Jutland Art Academy) in Aarhus between 1960 and 1962, where he studied under the Danish artist John Sparre Christensen (1921-1999).

Østergaard first exhibited in 1963 (and again in 1964 and 1965) at the Autumn Art Exhibition (Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling), a juried exhibition held every year (since 1915) which is held in the Free Exhibition Building (Den Frie Udstillings) in Copenhagen.

Østergaard was also a member of the Artist’s group ‘Sonde’ and exhited with them for 20 years at Aarhus Art Museum (1967-1987). In 2000 Ib S. Østergaard was included in the Aarhus Art Museum exhibition ‘Dansk Kunst 1950-2000’ (Danish Art 1950-2000). Aarhus Art Museum (2000).

Østergaard exhibited extensiely - other exhibitions include Galleri 14, Aarhus (1965 and 1968), Turku, Finland (1968), Ung Grafik (Young graphics), Kunsthallen Nikolaj, Copenhagen (1968), Helsingborg (1968), Grenchen, Switzerland (1970), ‘Jørgen Brask, Mogens Gissel, Teddy Sørensen, Ib S. Østergaard’ Århus Kunstforening (1974), International Triennial of Colored Graphic Prints, Grenchen, Switzerland (1970), Esbjerg Kunstpavillon (1971-78), Papier aus Jütland (Paper from Jutland), Bürgerhaus, Giessen, Germany (1973), Odense (1976), Hjørring Kunstmuseum (1991) and, most recently, had a solo exhibition at Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon, Arne Haugen Sørensen Museum (2017).

Ib S. Østergaard died on 31st January 2022, aged 84.
