Lars Spaac (b.1927

Lars Oskar Spaac was born in Stockholm on 15th December 1927. He is a Swedish painter and sculptor.

Spaac attended Isaac Grünewald’s Art School in Stockholm (1943-1946) before attending the Académie Libre Art School (also in Stockholm) in 1947. Académie Libre was founded in 1946 by a group of concretistic artists (and operated until 1957). It’s teaching staff included the Swedish artists Lennart Rodhe (1916-2005) and Pierre Olofsson (1921-1996)

In 1948, Spaac then attended the sculpture school (Lena Börjesons Skulpturskola) established in Stockholm by the Swedish sculptor Helena (Lena) Börjeson (1979-1976) for a year. He married Vanja Rosali Eriksson in 1948.

Spaac travelled to Germany and France (1954) and England (1956). From 1966, he made frequent trips to France.

Spaac returned to study in the 1960. He attended the Norwegian Institute of Crafts and Industry, the Konsthögskolan (Royal Institute of Art) in Stockholm and, between 1964 and 1966, Uppsala University where he studied Art History.

Spaac exhibited widely both within Sweden and internationally. Between 1952 and 1976, Spaac exhibited in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, North and South America.

Notable exhibitions include Lilla Paviljongen (Little Pavilion), Stockholm (1953) Örebro (1954), Kristinehamn and Norrköping (1955), Galerie Aesthetica, Stockholm (1956, 1962 and 1966), Sture Gallery, Stockholm (1957), Gävle (1952, 1954 and 1957), Karlskoga (1952) and then again (in 1955, and in Laxå in 1957) with Endel Köks (1912-1983). Liljevalchs Konsthall, Stockholm (1961), and at the Stockholm Salons (Stockholmssalongerna) at Liljevalchs Konsthall (in 1962 and 1963) and at Sveagalleriet, Stockholm (1964) with Bo Holmlund (1935-2013)

Spaac exhibited in Paris and New York in the late 1960s and was a frequent contributor to the Örebro County Konstförenings Salonger (Art Association Salons) since the early 1950s

Spaac also completed over 40 sculptural works (between 1954 and 1995) which can be seen throughout Sweden - Locations include Örebro, Köping, Linköping and Stockholm.

Examples of Spaac’s work are held in the collections of the Örebro County Museum, Västerås Art Museum and Universa-Haus in Nuremberg.

Spaac currently lives in Lillkyrka, just outside Örebro
